The Will of John Jett:
In the name of God Amen. I, John Jett of the County of Culpeper Planter being Sick and weak in Body but of Perfect mind and memory, thanks be Given to God for the same, and calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and Knowing for all men once to Die do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is to say Principally and First of all I give and Recommend my Soul to the Hands of God that Gave it me, and for my Body I Recommend to the Earth to be Buried in Christian Like and Decent manner at the Discretion of my Executors hearafter named nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive the same by the mighty Power of God and as Touching said Worldly Estate Wherewith hath Pleased God to be now upon me in this Life I Give Desire and Disperse the same in manner and form Following.
Imprimus I give and Bequeath unto my Son Stephan Jett ten Shillings Virginia monny no more.....
Item I give and Bequeath to my son James Jett one Negroe girl Named Winny And one Feather Bed and furniture and one Horse of a Bauleagle Colour Branded on the Near Bullock with a Cross
Item My will and desire is that my Household Goods and Moveable Effects and stock after my Wifes Decease be all Sold at Publick Oction and the monny Equally Divided Between William Jett, John Jett, James Jett, my three Sons and Elizabeth Roach, Margret Butler, and Mary Tapp, my Three Daughters and all other Demands Likewise......
Item My will and Desire is that my Negroe's Will, George, Jacob, and Peter be Sold at Publick Oction after the Decease of my Wife and the Monny Equally Divided between my Sons William Jett, John Jett, and Daughters Elizabeth Roach, Margret Butler, and Mary Tapp
Item My will and Desire that they Pay Just Debts and Likewise Constitute and Ordain my Wife Ann Jett, John Jett, and James Jett my Executors of this Last Will and Testament and I do hereby Utterly Disallow and revoke all and every Other Testament Wills Legacies Bequests and Executors by me in any Ways before Named Willed and Bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this six day of May One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Three Signed Sealed Published Renounced and declared by the Said John Jett as his Last Will and Testament in the Presence of us the subscribers
